What's up with me?

I Like You-Weeklyleaks-Dizzy

The album is mastered, and now for some final meetings before deciding upon release date and with whom I might be working with.
I recieved some old photo's today from my friend Anders Schille, I remember him taking some pictures back around when I was working at Nightstage and he found a couple.
I was hoping for some from inside the club, but no such luck.
Dizzy Gillespie is up on weeklyleaks as are a couple of other acts since I last blogged about it.
Shool tours are over, new concerts are coming up and spring is in the air.

Stay well

Me & My Buddies

I am currently playing school concerts with my buddies Håkon Gebhardt and Marit Bjartnes in Trondheim. I left Oslo in spring and drove north through a snow storm listening to Ornette Coleman, an orchestrated album on repeat, mesmerized by the lights through the snow from a semitrailer in front of me sliding over the mountains and then stopping for an hour waiting for the road to clear after an accident.  Marit showed me her studio after fixing it up, it looks great, I'll be using it on Tuesday for a photo shot with some students of Anja Elimine Basma.

The Lamps of Duper Studio

Lars Horntveth and I are just back after a week in Bergen mixing my new album with Jørgen Træen at Duper Studio.
Jørgen owns Duper along with Yngve Sætre. Besides having tons of great original equipment they also love light, both the kind that flows through their harbor view windows and the ones inspired by Thomas Alva Edison

Country Store/Fønhus Landhandel & Tracy Chapman

HGH
(Hagfors-Gebhardt-Hello!)
We are currently driving around Oppland Norway playing concerts for pre school children and and having a ball. The roads are icy and the snow is deep.
On one of our daily excursions we drove by an incredible old country store called Fønhus Landhandel. We stopped, bought malt beer and promised to come back. The store was a real blast from the past with all sorts or weird stuff for sale and with a work bench to repair tools and chainsaws out back. So yesterday we made good our promise and gave the old shop owner Agnar Fønhus and his wife Bjørg a short concert, bought some more malt beer and promised to come back...Marit caught us on her camera, check out this video! Notice how Agnar pulls out a couple of pieces of dried fish try'n to show off for future customers..anyone?

Agnar Fønhus is the cousin of the famous naturalist author Mikkel Fønhus. Legend has it that just up the hill on another Fønhus farm 13 people found dead around the dinner table were burried in the cellar during the Black Death of 1350.

Also head on over to my weeklyleaks player and sit back for a brilliant never before heard concert with Tracy Chapman that I recorded when I did sound for her back in 1987, this was before she released her first album. Weeklyleaks player.

Weeklyleaks Rick Danko- Susanne Sundfør vocals

This weeks weeklyleaks.net presents Rick Danko, he's a real treat. The show is from Nightstage in Cambridge Ma. I have been going through old papers and low and behold I have found my old input lists from Nightstage and some of the clubs flyers with lists of upcoming shows.
Yesterday Lars Hontveth and I finally finished up recording the tracks for my new album "I Like You". The icing on the cake was provided by the incredible Susanne Sundfør
who laid down gorgeous backing vocals on two tracks, Hanging On To Innocence and Floating From A Dream.

Weeklyleaks & Album recording completion

So I finally got www.weeklyleaks.net up and running and it cost me a used thinkpad to get the windows based media player working. I have got to thank my buddy Jeff Wasserman for being patient and teaching me the ropes so the learning curve wasn't too high.  I've got lots of hours ahead listening to great shows, can't say I mind.

My new album "I Like You" is still in the making but the recording sessions are now over, Lars and I had a great session with Morten Qvenild laying down piano & keyboards, Morten is really such an enthusiastic and brilliant player. He helped out on my last album Men And Flies as well. I owe him one!

We also had two different sessions with trombone player Erik Johannessen and horn (walthorn-French horn-waldhorn) player Trude Eick. They added their power and finess to Lars Horntveths grin breaking arrangements.

Harp the heaven angels sing

Lars Horntveth and I recorded harpist Sunniva Rødland Wettre at the Norwegian College of Music on Friday Dec 17 2010.  She laid some beautiful tracks on three songs.
A Voice Dipped In Honey, Freedom From The Hounds and Floating From a Dream. We recorded her with two microphone setups, one being a pair of Neumann 184's for a wide stereo spread and the other being a AEA R88 stereo ribbon mic a little closer to the harp. What a beautiful instrument! We borrowed the AEA off our keyboard friend Morten Qvenild who will also lay down some tracks this coming Tuesday.

New page, new year, new album

Off THe Board Hi.

New music has been written, a new album is in the works and once again Lars Horntveth is arranging and producing. Title I LIKE YOU

I was fired as CEO over at Home Groan Productions but after some heavy bribing was reinstated to lead this rubber raft over the choppy seas of the music business.

I am taking control over my online presence and will keep you informed, give you stuff and generally be more available for chit chat.

Plans! Yes I have a bunch of plans, one being;

Weeklyleaks

I was once a live sound man  and have two beautiful suitcases full of cassettes that I recorded Off The Board, most of them twenty years old with some great artist like, Stan Getz, Tracy Chapman, Townes Van Zandt, Bill Monroe, Carl Perkins, Mick Taylor, Astor Piazzolla, Etta James,  Les Paul, Albert King, Dr John the list goes on. Anyhow I plan on starting a new blog called "OFF THE BOARD" where I will review the shows and stream some of them for your listening pleasure. These cassettes have never been copied and I just want to make them available so you can tune in and check out tracks from a past gold mine.

Stay tuned

Quotes by Martin

Ok my mind is made up, now I'll do my face

I'm so well off I don't want to be on anymore

It's now or never all over again

Keep biking, you ride and can't drive yourself crazy. Just a thought.

I've got the bucket in my line of sight but not quite dead yet

I have made up my mind and the my answer is maybe

Half the time I don't know what's going on, the rest is behind me

If you keep on looking back you'll lose sight of what's ahead

I can't remember signing up for today

The deeper the dirt the thicker the skin

Being five minutes late doesn't buy you time

I wish that was funny, I wish everything was funny

I had no idea I was using my brain

Being negative gives me great pleasure and makes me laugh

Before there were bridges, water still ran under them
